Scott's Remote & In-Home Piano & Keyboard Lessons offers continuous open enrollment.
You can contact original owner / founder Scott McGowan by text at 443-257-2757 or his wife Kathy Nichols - McGowan at 443-834-0714 to schedule a mutually convenient phone appointment to learn all about our 30 + year old well-established music school that has garnered publicity over the years on what this spring will be a dozen times to date.
Owner / Founder Scott McGowan has been teaching piano since 1993 and has employed a staff of additional instructors since 1997. It was his popularity as a piano teacher and a growing waiting list that eventually led to the expansion of his music school by first having his now late wife (Aug. 2017) Harlene (wed in May 1994) in taking those students on his waiting list.
Later on when a joint waiting list developed, they recruited a dedicated team of other instructors.
As of February of 2024, his new bride (6/26/22) who was also widowed (2014) has joined him in his music school in similar suit, providing administrative and customer service support as well as specializing in teaching a limited number of beginner students of all ages in person.
Every staff member has extensive formal training as well as significant experience teaching piano either through our music school and in the case of a few staff members who have been on board for over 10 years - or through teaching privately and / or through other music schools prior to joining his team.
By early March of 2024, you can expect our teaching staff page to feature our complete teaching staff with a profile on each team member that details their experience and qualifications as well as a sharing of their thoughts and philosophy on music education as well as more about their outside hobbies and interests.
Scott and his team all understand that every student is unique. Each student has his or her own personality, learns differently, and may have their own musical tastes. These differences are taken into account so that each student can have an optimal experience with their lessons.
Baltimore area families may choose to have lessons in their homes or remote lessons. Remote lessons are available to families who live outside of the Baltimore area. Every effort is made to match your family with a teacher who can meet your scheduling needs - whether you are looking for lessons in your home or remote lessons.
If availability for lessons in your home is limited or your scheduling needs for in-home lessons can not be met, you may want to give more consideration to remote lessons, as many families have found them to be very effective.
During the 2022-2023 school year, 3/4 of Scott's 60 piano students were doing their lessons remotely, progressing quite well and their families also benefitted from the reduced tuition costs.
Whether your lessons are in-home or remote and whether they are with Scott or a member of his dedicated team of instructors - Kathy Nichols McGowan will arrange a meet & greet with your family.
Because Scott works with just shy of 60 (currently mostly remote) piano students on an ongoing basis, Kathy will be conducting the majority of these, although Scott will be present whenever possible.
These are done remotely - except for families that Scott will be working with directly and traveling to...(although the meet & greet for families that will be receiving in home piano lessons can be done remotely if your family prefers).
The meet & greets provide an opportunity for Kathy and / or Scott and your family to get better acquainted prior to a first lesson if Scott will be your teacher - and even if not - it still provides the same opportunity to get to know each other a bit and to connect with students and families that he will be entrusting to the staff member he has assigned.
Scott & Kathy always ask their assigned team members to get in touch with new families before they start as well so they can chat for a bit...
Recitals have been a tradition with Scott's music school since 1995 and have been converted to remote events since 2020.
While this was initially in response to the pandemic, since that time families who have also done in-person recitals in years past reported that the students in their home were more relaxed being able to play from the comfort of their own home.
Since that time, there have also been students and families from out of state who are enjoying remote lessons and using this platform gives every student the opportunity to participate.
In 2024 there are 4 Zoom Student Performance Recital Events scheduled - all on Sundays at 3pm on the following dates: 4/28, 5/5. 5/12 & 5/19.
We are pleased to announce that we have secured an ideal facility to host 2 traditional student performance recitals following the Zoom programs.
Two programs will be held, respectively at 4pm and 6pm at a facility which we have happily disclosed in our March newsletter (& will do so again in our May newsletter) as well as during our check in calls when we will be coordinating our upcoming programs.
We are confident that the families that we are honored to grateful to be working with will truly enjoy what we feel is an ideal venue for these events in which we love to see our students SHINE!
Scott & Kathy look forward to hosting these double recital program this year and to using this venue in upcoming years, during which they will carefully access local families' preference for remote versus in-person recital events.
Regardless of how the popularity of each option compares, remote Zoom recital events will always be made available and scheduled in order to accommodate those families / students / clients who live in more distant areas of Maryland as well as those whom live out of state.
